From the Drop Zone to the Office
Patrick Bickham is a 3rd generation service member and the first to become a U.S. Army paratrooper in a family full of jarheads. His suspected rockstar ancestor earned the medal of honor fighting in the Philippines which is coincidentally where Sergeant Bickham deployed…twice!
Beyond copious amounts of cleaning, organizing, and training that’s stereotypical for most enlisted soldiers, he found his overall military experience deep and enriching. He was provided numerous opportunities to travel abroad (also known as deployments) to the Philippines and Korea, where he perfected the art of crafting printed, radio and video communications in various languages to help create a safer world.
After committing six valiant years to the Special Operations community, he set out for greener pastures in academia where he went from being the young one in Uncle Sam’s prestigious army to the Billy Madison of a college classroom.
He chose marketing as his major — a curriculum he felt complimented his military experience and would offer similar job satisfaction. Having been under the Army’s thumb for quite some time, he thoroughly enjoyed all the pleasures a college lifestyle throws at students while earning dean’s list every semester and taking on multiple internships.
With his degree in hand and no more Uncle Sam on his back telling him where to go and who to follow, he dove head first into a career in marketing communications and has yet to look back.
